Researchers measured the caloric intake, macronutrient content, food types, and the glycemic load of foods eaten by teens.。

These changes largely occurred in the late evening (after 9:00 pm). Teens getting short sleep also ate fewer fruits and vegetables across the entire day, compared to healthy sleep.。

"We suspect that tired teens are looking for quick bursts of energy to keep them going until they can go to bed, so they're seeking out foods that are high in carbs and added sugars."。

The research found that teens in short sleep consumed 12 extra grams of sugar each day. With most teenagers not getting sufficient sleep during the 180 nights of a school year, an extra 12 grams of added sugar each day could result in over 4.5 pounds of extra sugar each year.。

Olympic champion Huang reaches "double" doubles quarters at Denmark Open******

ODENSE, Denmark, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo Olympic badminton champion Huang Dongping secured quarterfinal berths in both the mixed and women's doubles here on Thursday at the BWF Denmark Open.

Huang and her Olympic title-winning partner Wang Yilyu outplayed French duo Thom Gicque and Delphine Delrue 23-21, 21-10 to book a spot in the mixed doubles last eight.

"They changed the pace and shuttle speed strategically, pushing us with good quality," said Huang.

"I'm feeling a bit exhausted both mentally and physically after the Cup games. Obviously we are not in the same good form as in previous tournaments, but we'll try our best to keep the fight going," she added.

Huang then partnered with Zheng Yu to progress to the women's doubles quarterfinals after edging Bulgarian pair Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva 11-21, 21-11, 21-17.

"We couldn't control the rally in first set before we made some strategic changes thereafter to overturn the game," said Zheng.

Paired with Du Yue, 20-year-old Feng Yanzhe beat Chang Tak Ching and Ng Wing Yung 21-15, 21-16 in another mixed doubles match.

Du, paired with Li Wenmei, also won her women's doubles match against Danish pair Amalie Magelund and Freja Ravn, 21-13, 21-7.

Lu Guangzu was outclassed by fourth-seeded Chou Tien-Chen from Chinese Taipei in the men's singles, losing too many points in a row in the first set to surrender 21-15, 21-18.

New Zealand's COVID******

The New Zealand government on Wednesday decided to reduce the interval between a person's primary COVID-19 vaccination course and the booster from four months to three months so that more people can take their booster jabs as soon as possible.

A million more New Zealanders over 18 will be eligible for their boosters from this Friday when the decision takes effect, COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins told a press conference.

Bringing forward the booster timing will help those who have been immunized more recently. It will mean more people, especially Maori, will be able to receive a booster before Omicron takes hold in communities, he said.

To date, about 94 percent of the eligible people in New Zealand are fully vaccinated with at least two doses. That is close to 4 million Kiwis, over a quarter of whom have now also had their booster shots, according to the minister.

New Zealand recorded 142 new community cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, with 103 in the largest city Auckland, 12 in nearby Waikato, five in Bay of Plenty, two in the Lakes region, and 11 in Northland, said the Ministry of Health in a statement.
